Sept 30 – Lipa Football League newcomers La Salle FC pulled off a major Season 2 Round 1 shock by emphatically defeating defending champions FC Reigning Kickers by 5 goals to 1. The club is made up of De la Salle Lipa’s high school varsity team.

Gangling youngster Alessandro Suarez, who learned his football in Italy, led the Lasallians with a brace. Gian Adame, Samuel Panghulan and Ronnie Singson all contributed to the team’s effort with a goal each. For the shocked defending champions, Jhon Lester Torres scored the consolation goal to prevent a shutout.

In the other opening game played at the same time, last season’s runners-up Lipa Emmanuel FC, formerly known as BCAS FC, nipped Kings FC 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller. The Gutierrez brothers Gerard and Guian scored a goal each for Lipa Emmanuel, as did captain Luise Emmanuel. An unfortunate Kings FC own goal proved to be the winning margin.

For the hard luck Kings FC, Omar Mazloum, last season’s top goalscorer at the conclusion of the group stage, picked up where he left off from the first season by scoring the current tournament’s first hattrick. Unfortunately, his heroics could not prevent his side’s first defeat of the season.

Last year’s bronze medal winners and tournament hosts ACF Real Molinillo de Lipa played a hard-fought draw with the league’s guest team Real Baraco FC of Batangas City.

Jerome Villanueva gave Real Baraco the deserved lead before Real Molinillo fought back with goals from Tyron Regalado (penalty) and Simon Javate to take the lead. Daniel Aungon pounced after Real Molinillo goalkeeper Christian Rongavilla spilled Nico Maguddayao’s to equalize near the end of the match.

In the day’s fourth match, Mark Fernandez scored twice to lead Basilio Fernando Air Base’s Mentors FC over the Coffee Millers FC, 4-2. Harold Bayona and Jover Fornea were the Mentors’ other goalscorers. Jan Chrisandre Palad score twice for the luckless Coffee Millers.
